More than a litter conditioner, Mistral® is a management tool allowing farmers to follow the basic rules of animal rearing and respect the physiological balance of their animals, simply and efficiently
Calf welfare
Young calves face environmental aggressors that can lead to neonatal diarrhoea, respiratory problems, infection of the umbilical cord, and so on. Mistral® can be used to speed up drying and the time between calving and first colostrum intake, improving the chances of a critically successful first meal. Drying the umbilical cord closes one of the routes for pathogens and helps ensure good development for the calf.
Reducing mastitis
Mastitis is a major pathology in dairy production, linked to environmental pathogens. As the main source of bacteria, bedding must be carefully managed to prevent this disease.
Digital dermatitis control
Digital dermatitis is a very contagious pathology that is growing worldwide. A Mistral® foot bath keeps animals’ feet clean and dry to limit the development of bacteria responsible for this disease.
1
Reduces microbial and ammonia production through moisture control
2
Reduces the development of germs that can cause mastitis
3
Helps prevent digital dermatitis
Mistral® ensures a clean and dry environment for healthy animals.
For optimal efficiency, we recommend the following doses and frequency of use:
● Calving pens: 100 g per m², 2-3 times per week.
● Cubicles: 50-150 g per cubicle daily.
● Free housing: 500g per cow, 3 times per week after straw application.

Calving is a critical moment for the contraction of mammitis. The immune system is weak, the breasts are often inflamed, the teat is open and it drips colostrum. Reducing sanitary pressure by drying is fundamental during this period. Prepare the calving shed by spreading Mistral before and after mulching. Microbial development will be reduced owing to humidity control. Thus, Mistral provides a better environment at this decisive moment in the calf’s life.
At calving time, two main gestures are necessary: keeping the calf warm and limiting the contamination of the navel cord. The use of Mistral litter conditioner to accelerate the drying of the calf allows reducing the time between its birth and its first intake of colostrum. Drying the navel cord helps to close a transmission pathway for bacterias and improves the chances for a good development of the calf.

Milk loss, feces, heat and open teat canal, all the elements are there for the cows to contract mastitis. Spreading Mistral on a daily basis, at cleaning time, at the back of each cubicle, where the teats are, allows drying the critical area. This helps reducing the sanitary pressure. This daily gesture is worthwhile and helps reducing medication to a large extent.
