Mr Hervé Balusson: “It is possible to build up a clean-label product range Thanks to Algae!”

Olmix Group’s CEO & President shared his vision on the future trade partnerships between France and Asia and gave an overview of one the most ambitious Olmix’s projects in the Asian food market: ‘Food Algae’.

P.R.I.S.M.E. Students’ Association of the University of Rennes (France), in partnership with the CCE of Brittany, the World Trade Centre Rennes-Brittany and the Rennes Foundation 1 hosted the 4th edition of its annual workshop on international trade business and projects, this year entitled ‘Doing Business with Korea’. Held on Friday, 16th March, the event counted on the presence of Mr Hervé Balusson, Olmix Group’s CEO & President, who was one of the key speakers of the session ‘Brittany: perspectives and future in South Korea’.

In this context, Mr Balusson first introduced the Olmix’s main fields of activity as well as the different strategies that the company uses to reach one of its main goals: a sustainable food system “to produce more with less”:

“Olmix Group is a global specialist in marine biotechnology and green chemistry based in Bréhan, France. Our three divisions, Plant Care, Animal Care and Human Care, pursue the same objective, which is no other than producing more with less while improving food safety and respecting animals, people and the environment. To meet this challenge, we strongly bet on algae and marine resources”, he said.

Deeper on the matter, Mr Balusson went on and shared the Olmix’s expertise in China as an example of what might be done in South Korea in terms of business in the near future and also the reasons that led the company to invest in one the biggest countries in the world:

Mr Hervé Balusson shared the Olmix's expertise in China as an example of what might be done in Korea.

“We have been present in China for 12 years now and during this period we have identified several needs in the country. First, Chinese agriculture -including livestock- is in general quite unproductive and does not satisfy the high demand that exists. Besides, the Chinese market is keen on importing products from countries considered to be references in terms of food quality, security and traceability. We found a gap to be filled and took advantage of that opportunity”.

Indeed, in these recent years more and more Asian countries are willing to start business relationships with European countries. Such situation has led Olmix to strengthen its activities in the Chinese territory and stablish a long-term strategy to be spread to the rest of Asia:

“We try to make the most of both Chinese and French markets. We follow a double path where both exports and production become a single player: we make strong partnerships with Chinese manufacturers while protecting and respecting their products and brands and, at the same time, we promote our products with a high-quality label”, Mr Balusson stated.

Finally, Olmix Group’s President unveiled one of the most challenging projects that the company will be facing in the coming years: introducing a brand new ‘Merci les Algues !’ label to the food industries from all around the globe; an ambitious plan based on the Olmix’s antibiotic, pesticide and chemical-free philosophy for a better health of plants, animals and humans thanks to algae.

“The ‘Food Algae’ project will be the result of applying algae to all stages of the food chain. That will allow us to raise animals without antibiotics and grow plants without pesticides. Therefore, it is possible to build up a ‘clean label’ product range thanks to algae that will be the consequence of a sustainable and environmental friendly process to all plants, animals and humans”.
