Stimulating soil life for a profitable and sustainable crop production

3-year experimental platform shows the potential of Olmix’s MIP® technology.

The International Soil and Tillage Research Organisation (ISTRO) and its Croatian branch (CROSTRO) recently hosted a 3-days technical journey in Croatia. With Olmix being the main partner of the event, the team gladly contributed through several panel discussions on soil fertility, plant nutrition and crop resistance, and took the opportunity to show the outstanding results of a 3-year experimental platform being treated with the Olmix’s exclusive MIP® technology.

Introduction in the Faculty of Agrobiotechnical Sciences

On the very first day, the Faculty of Agrobiotechnical Sciences (Osijek, Croatia) opened its doors for technical presentations from diverse European research teams, where Olmix gave a deep insight on this technology and some of its proved advantages in the field:

Mineral Inducer Process (MIP®) is the name of the technology that Olmix Plant Care has come up through research and field test with proved efficacy. It relies on the use of bioactive properties of specific minerals and micronutrients to stimulate the reorganization of soil’s native microflora and to boost biological reactions of plants and microorganisms in a sustainable way. The MIP® technology gives birth to several ingredients among them: MIP® RHIZO to boost rhizosphere microflora and thus plant nutrition, and MIP® SOIL dedicated to stimulating humus synthesis and thus to improve soil structure.

“Thanks to the MIP® technology are able to improve efficacy of plant nutrition and soil management in a sustainable way. We manage to make the most of minerals that are readily available for the microflora, which leads to developing soil porosity and promoting enzymatic activities necessary for processing organic matter,” Benoit le Rumeur, Olmix's Sales Development Manager, explained.

MIP® was born to answer the worldwide concern about finding a sustainable way to cultivate plants while reducing the agriculture environment footprint and preserving soils for future generations. The goal is clear: developing a virtuous systemic management of plant production through crop rotation, soil tillage, crop protection, fertilization, and stimulation of soil life.

3-year experimental platform with Geo2

The great effects of this technology were spotlighted through a complete technical visit hosted by ISTRO and CROSTRO in the local region of Čačinci, where the insights on a 3-year experimental platform were presented to attendees as well as the programs used during all stages of the project so far.

This platform led by Professor Danijel Jug and his research team was set up in 2017, crossing Soil Tillage, Fertilization and Soil biostimulation (with Geo2 soil activator) during a classical crop rotation.

  • Location: Čačinci, South Eastern region in Croatia.
  • Soil type: Silty clay.
  • Rotation: corn, soya and wheat.
  • Aim of the project: Restoring soil’s productivity through different soil tillage management and soil improvers.

"This trial shows how a continuous usage of Geo2 soil activator during one crop rotation allows to enhance mainly all the parameters managing soil behaviour. Geo2 contains Olmix’s MIP® SOIL technology, which helps the product promote the synthesis of humus by stimulating the biological activity of the soil," Le Rumeur said.

During these 3 years, Geo2 proved to have several positive effects:

  • Better physical organization of the soil regardless the tillage system in comparison with the untreated area.
  • Water retention significantly increased and chemical properties of the soil were also modified.
  • Clear improvement of soil properties and water availability, which led to a better use of water and nutrients uptake.
  • The increase of yield despite the reduction of P-K fertilization shows that Geo2 helped to restore the soil’s productivity in comparison to control.

“After 3 years applying Geo2, the soil structure has been improved on the 3 various tillage modalities (plowing, reduced tillage, conservation tillage) and the water retention capacity significantly developed all along the year. Finally, Geo2 led to a more efficient use of mineral resources by plants and thereby, a better production.“
