Pig, Poultry and Dairy Focus Asia: First day of conferences

Pi Nyvall Collén, Olmix Group’s Scientific Manager, opened up the keynote session of the Pig, Poultry and Dairy Focus Asia in Bangkok, Thailand, on the subject “Animal performance improvement Thanks to Algae”.

The presentation covered general information on algae and, more specifically, macroalgae (or seaweed) which are the focus of development for Olmix Group. Some examples were given about the effect of the feed supplementation of brown algal meal on animal performance, which is in direct relation to prebiotic and immune stimulation effects.

Besides, Ms. Pi Nyvall showed the audience the Olmix technology development concerning algae processing, the structural interactions between specific clays and algal polysaccharides yielding improved adsorptive properties or catalytic properties.

The Olmix's Scientific Manager supported her speech through scientific data and in vivo trials: the immune stimulating activity of a specific Marine Sulfated Polysaccharide (MSP) fraction was demonstrated by the recent scientific results published in collaboration with INRA (Berri et al 2016 J. Appl. Phycol.) and confirmed by in vivo field trials. The effects of the different products are combined in the Olmix program aimed to reduce the use of antibiotics.

The 500 attendees of the Pig, Poultry and Dairy Focus Asia 2016 will receive presentations on all aspects of animal husbandry, as an example the other keynote sessions covered subjects as diverse as genetic improvement, antibiotics as a tool in livestock production and veterinary inputs.
