Mr Hervé Balusson: 'How to feed 9 billion people thanks to algae'

Mr Hervé Balusson, Olmix Group President & CEO, was invited to attend the France Inter radio studios to get interviewed by the journalist José Manual Lamarque and talk about algae as a unique bioresource.

Among other topics, Mr Hervé Balusson got into the different types of algae that Olmix Group works with in order to meet diverse and specific challenges that affect the complete food chain. Most of these red, green and brown macro-algae, very high in many nutrients and proteins, are first collected from the coasts of Brittany and the Vendée, in France, and then valorized in order to produce natural solutions and alternatives for plants, animals and human beings.

"Thanks to our Research and Development teams and partnership with renowned institutes we have been able to objectivate several biological activities in different algae that can be then used according to challenges in in humans, plants and animals", Mr Balusson explained.

In this interview Mr Balusson also highlighted the importance of the sea as a unique source of natural resources that help us face and solve current several health issues and the ones to come in the early future: "The oceans contain specific molecules and minerals that we cannot find on land. It is a massive base of resources that we should use".

On the other hand, the Olmix Group CEO talked about the ‘alicament’ concept –the combination between food and drug, - in Western Europe: "Without any doubt we are going towards real active natural pure molecules but this requires clinical trials and a lot of scientific research".
