Olmix held a workshop on mycotoxicosis in Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam)

Professionals of the animal sector, quality control specialists and local and Southeast Asia partners took part in the event

Mycotoxins were first discovered in 1960. However, even today they are still difficult to identify, which makes quality control of raw materials a tough and complicated process, especially in feed mills.

Over 20 years of creation and development Olmix has become one of the most important companies in the research of mycotoxins, enabling to mitigate the risks and negative impacts caused by these metabolites and aiming to protect animal and public health.

In order to share the difficulties of the livestock sector and on the occasion of the 20th anniversary, Olmix held a workshop on "Assessment and management of mycotoxins risk in raw materials" at the Sofitel Hall in Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam) on the 20th August, 2015.

The event gathered about 50 feed formulators, technicians, quality control specialists and local and Southeast Asia partners, among others. The act counted on the collaboration of three speakers: a specialist in mycotoxin research, a nutritionist and a veterinarian.

Firstly, Prof. PhD. Duong Thanh Liem delivered a lecture on the damages and harmful effects of mycotoxins. As Mr. Than explained, mycotoxin might be found in most of feedstuff raw materials due to their variety and diversity –there are more than 300 types-, being noxious for all animal species and human beings.

Then, it was Dr. Michel Guillaume who explained and emphasized on the impact of mycotoxin contamination in the feed on the intestinal villi of pigs, a situation that may lead to considerable economic losses and risks to the livestock.

Subsequently, Dr. Virgil Meallet, Asia Technical Supervisor at Olmix, gave a conference talk on measures and solutions to face and restrict mycotoxins. As one of the natural alternatives to reduce the impact of these metabolites, Dr. Meallet presented the product MT.x+, a natural toxin binder which is the result of the association between specific algae and clays.

Finally, Mr. Trinh Quang Thanh, Olmix General Director in Asia Pacific, thanked the attendees and speakers for taking part in the event. Besides, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Olmix Group, he expressed his gratitude to partners, customers and those who have been supporting the company’s work all these years.
